Dr. Phillip Wilson JP, graduated from the St. Andrew Technical High School in 1976. Dr. Wilson has served Jamaica’s education sector for 37 years, with 17 of these years as principal, four years as assistant principal and 16 years as a classroom teacher. He is credited with numerous accomplishments at St Andrew and St Thomas Technical High Schools.
Dr. Wilson is the founder of the S.W. Issac/STATHS annual invitational track and field meet and the STATHS annual 5k Run/Walk. He is also the founder of the Castro Summer League football program. Under his leadership the St. Andrew Technical High school rose to a high level of prominence at the CSEC examination and ISSA sporting levels. He was awarded in 2019, the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for service to Education. Dr. Wilson is noted for his diligence and service to education.
For upwards of twelve years, he was zone chairman and board member of the Inter-Secondary School Sports Association (I.S.S.A) with special responsibility for Youth Football Programs. Dr Wilson also served as president of the Association of Principals of Technical High Schools.
Dr. Wilson spearheaded several impacting projects and educational programmes at the St. Andrew Technical High schools during in tenure.
His hobbies include attending sporting events, playing cricket, doing educational research, and travelling locally and abroad. He is currently a member of the STATHS Trust with responsibility for special projects and fund raising for the trust. He is a Lifelong Learner, a father of three children and the last of ten children to his parents and the only one to have attended high school and tertiary institutions.
